They say it takes a village...

When you think of a vintage market, what do you actually think about?  Do you wonder where the merchandise comes from?  Do you ask who the vendors are?  Do you want to know how long it takes to set the market up?  How far do we travel to find the merchandise?  What do we do for "fun"?  These are all questions we hear often.  So.....here is my best attempt to answer these questions.  Our market is set up as a stylized market which means we do not have individual booth spaces....instead our vendors (all 30 of them) drop off their merchandise a week or so prior to the market date and we stage everything together.  We want the market to feel fresh every month so we tear down and re-stage the space every month (yes......every month). We spend about 60-80 hours a month working hard to make the space fresh and new so our customers want to come back month after month.  We, as well as our vendors, spend hour after hour scouring the area looking for unique, one of a kind items that we feel are special enough for the market.  We have vendors that do this as a hobby, some do this for extra income, and some just love the hunt.  We go all the way to Iowa, upper Michigan, down to Tennessee, Missouri and even North Carolina in search of these unique items.  If you really want to know what we do for fun (aside from picking for the market)....well....that's just a silly question.  After all of the picking, cleaning, re-purposing, staging, etc.....well there is no time left in the day for anything else.  We just started our 3rd season and we still love what we do.  We have met some incredible (and colorful) people along the way and will be sure to share more of our behind the scenes with you all in upcoming blogs.  Please be kind....this was our first official "blog" and hope to have many more to follow!  See you at the market the 4th weekend of every month!
